Main Page Questions

How is the main page pictures sorted?
A. The main page is sorted by most recent via journal update entries.

I am looking for someone but I don't know their exact username?
A. That is fine. Type in as much of their username that you know, and the search will generate all usernames that have that string of characters.

Page Style Change Questions

How do I change the color of _This part of page_?
A. To alter the looks of your personal page, ensure that you are logged in, go to 'my page' on the top navigation bar, select 'edit page' from the top navigation bar, then select Edit Style/Colors/Fonts that will be listed above the description.

Can I upload images to be the backgrounds of my journal entries?
A. As of right now you are not able to upload images as a BG to journal entries.

File Upload Related Questions

How do I upload a picture?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to 'my page' on the top navigation bar, select 'edit page' from the top navigation bar, then select "Edit Gallery" under the image. Select "[Add a new picture]" from above the description area.

When I upload an image I get this error...
A. Please ensure that the image you are uploading is a .jpg or .gif. If you are unsure of the extension, open the image in a program like Photoshop. Save the image as a .jpg or .gif. There are also size limitations on the images. If the image is larger than 75k, it will not be accepted. Please scale down the pictures also using image altering software such as Photoshop. If you are still getting errors after doing these checks, please contact us with the error message and the file that you are unable to upload.

How do I set the picture for the main page?
A.Make sure you are logged in. Go to 'my page' on the top navigation bar, select 'edit page' from the top navigation bar, then select "Edit Gallery" under the image. Click on "Avatar" for the image you want on the front page.

How do I set the picture for the front of MY page?
A.Make sure you are logged in. Go to 'my page' on the top navigation bar, select 'edit page' from the top navigation bar, then select "Edit Gallery" under the image. Click on "Gallery Title" for the image you want on the front page.

I want to move where my image is in the Gallery
A. When you select the edit mode, go edit the Gallery you want to change. Note that right above the image you want to move are little arrows pointing left and right. "Move" the image around the gallery to desired place using the arrows.

How do I delete my entire gallery?
A. In Edit mode go edit gallery. At the top of the gallery there will be a "Delete Gallery" option to the right of "Add a new picture" option.

How many images may I upload?
A. You may upload up to 100 images, and set one of those images as your avatar.

How much disk space do I get for my files??
A. You can upload your audio or/and video mix, but each file can be no more than 10 megs, and your maximum disk space alottment is 100 megs. (You can get more HD space with a premium paid membership, although this option is not yet available.) File formats for video mixes can be in real player (.rm , .ram), .avi , .mov , .mpg or .swf. If at all possible please use a cross platform codec, so both mac & pc users will be able to view your work.

I link to a picture on audiovisualizers.com, but it shows up as broken.
A. This is because we do not allow people to link to images on our server. There is the possibility of a paid option in the future that will allow you to do this.

Buddy Related

How do I add a buddy?
A. Go to that person's webpage, and click "add buddy" on the far top left side navigation menu.

How are Buddies sorted?
A. Buddies are sorted by Most Recently Updated. This is also how the Buddy friends list is sorted.

What does the green above someone's picture mean?
A. That means that the user is currently on audiovisualizers.com. Please understand that sometimes people might leave the browser open, and might not actually be physically present.

What does the '>' symbol next to a collapsed-list friend name mean?
A. It means your buddy is currently on the site (the text version of having a green hilited name).

How can I keep someone from having me on their buddy list?
A. Using the 'Block' function under "Account Settings" will refrain a user from being able to have you on their buddy list. If they already had you on their buddy list before the block, it will remove you from their buddy list once you have blocked them.

How Do I remove people from my buddy list?
A. Go to the main page. Click the 'X' under that buddy's name.

Journal Related Question

How do I add a journal entry?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to "My Page". Select "add journal entry" on right side of navigation menu.

Can I edit a journal entry I posted in someone else's journal?
A. You can edit a journal followup for up to 15 minutes after posting said followup.

How do I keep people from posting ANY comments to a journal entry?
A. When you go to add a journal entry, select the checkbox "Disallow Comments". This will make it so that no comments may be added to that journal entry.

How do I keep people I don't want from posting to my journal entries?
A. Using the Block function found in Account Settings, you can keep particular users from posting comments to your journal.

Can I embed my deadjournal/livejournal/etc instead?
A. Yes. But keep these things in mind:

• Livejournal only allows PAID users to embed.
• It won't look as cool as having sk.net's journal option, since they don't allow for basic text parsing.
• Our site will never be slow and clunky like livejournals. Expect issues with your audiovisualizers.com account if there is lagging on the behalf of livejournal.com.
• Deadjournals will carry over the goddamn banners. No banners on audiovisualizers.com journals.

How can I change the number of journal entries on each page?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to "My Page". Select "Account Settings" on the top navigation bar. Scroll to Journal Preferences.

Issues with other users

This other user is harrassing me. Can you kick them/block them/etc?
A.You can block the user with the "Block" functionality found under Account Settings. This will make it so that you won't be on their buddy list, they can't PM you or post comments to your journal.

This other user is using my images/content without permission. DO something!
A. Please report the user and the images/content that is being used without permission to TOS violations @ tos@audiovisualizers.com. We will investigate the issue and determine action to be taken.

Privacy and Policy

How do I make my page only viewable to members?
A. Go into Account Settings. Click the checkbox next to "Make my page viewable only by other members. " Click "Save Settings".

Are you going to sell my information to advertisers?
A. No.

I want to run banners off my site. Why can't I?
A. Personal banners are fine. For example, buttons to sites you like, your own personal webpage, etc. But hosting banners for money making purposes is not OK. We don't make money hosting YOU, you shouldn't make money being hosted by US.

I want to use my site as a gateway for warez/mp3s/porn. Why is this an issue?
A. This is an issue because then your site will be causing high amounts of bandwidth. Please respect the community, and take that stuff elsewhere.

Are my Private Messages really private? Or are you reading them?
A. Your PMs are private from all users, including the operators of the site. The only time when your PMs might be read by anyone other than yourself without your consent is in matters concerning the law. Community.audiovisualizers.com fully complies with the law. If they come knocking on our doors and ask to see our logs and database info.. sorry. We will give it to them. But don't worry, this most likely won't happen. :)

My page is gone and I can't log in!
A. Most likely your page was deleted. We reserve the right to delete any account for any reason.

Private Message Feature

How to I PM someone?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to that buddy's page and click 'pm buddyname' on the upper left hand side of the navigation bar. You can also PM them from your buddy list on the main page by clicking on the envelope symbol under their image. A third option is going into your mailbox and composing a new message and filling in their name in the "To" box.

Can I block a user from PM'ing me?
A. Using the Block function found in Account Settings will prevent the designated user from PM'ing you.

Can I create my own folders to store PMs in?
A. As of right now, no. Once again, another feature for future use. This one is actually going to be in one of the sooner upcoming releases.

Artwork/Banner Information

Can I make a banner for audiovisualizers.com?
A. Yes, please!! You can make a front page banner which must be the follow size specifications: Width = 666 pixels, Height = 73 pixels. You can also make an "advertising" banner that can be run on another website, or cute little buttons for people to put on their own websites. In fact, all artwork/banners are highly appreciated for audiovisualizers.com. Please feel free to send all submissions to art@audiovisualizers.com.

Are there any banners/buttons/etc that I can link to audiovisualizers.com with?
A. Yes! Please go HERE to view the wonderful selection of images for linking purposes.

Site Building

Why can't I insert Javascript for my site? I want cool Javascript effects!!
A. We don't allow javascript due to security purposes. A future paid option will allow the user to have Javascript.

Why can't I use this certain HTML tag?
A. This is also due to security reasons. Please submit any HTML tag that you are unable to use to us to be considered for approval. The way you can tell it isn't accepted is when you add it, go look at your page, see that nothing has changed, and when you go back to your description, the tag is no longer there (it has been stripped away).

Account Settings

How do I change my password?
A.Make sure you are logged in. Go to "My Page". Select "Account Settings" on the top navigation bar. Enter your old password, then your new password twice, then "Change Password" button.

What happens if I forgot my password?
A. Submit your email and a link will be provided to reset it.

How do I change my email?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to "My Page". Select "Account Settings" on the top navigation bar. Change the email listed and select "Update Information".

How do I delete my account?
A. Make sure you are logged in. Go to "My Page". Select "Account Settings" on the top navigation bar. Scroll to bottom and select Delete Journal. This is PERMANENT. The username will not be able to be reregistered until after thirty days of account deletion.

How can I change my account name?
A. Email us why you want to change your username, and what you want it changed to. If your username gets changed, everything associated with your old username (for example, journal responses in other people's journals) will still be attached to your new username. So if you are trying to hide under a new name, it won't work. But if you have other reasons for a name change, email us, and we will review the situation.

Will this site become a paid site?
A. The services are be currently free but we may institute a small membership fee in the future to help cover traffic, bandwidth and hosting costs.
